From the very first page, "Alchemy of Secrets" had me under its spell. ✨ It’s that perfect blend of modern-day magic and old Hollywood glamour — the kind of story that plays in your head like a vintage film reel you never want to end. I was absolutely enchanted.
Holland stole my heart. She believes in magic, sees wonder around every corner, and yet she’s so very alone. No one knows her real last name, her twin sister is always off traveling for her mysterious job, and everyone around her seems to be hiding secrets — big ones. By the end, I didn’t know who she should trust… or if she should trust anyone at all.
And that ENDING?! That beach scene?! When Mason appears and then leaves behind THE business card — the Devil’s calling card — I literally gasped. It felt like watching the final fade-to-black of an old noir film. You could almost hear the jazz soundtrack cut out mid-note. 🎺
The whole book drips with old Hollywood ambiance — The Regal Hotel, The Roosevelt, those smoky, glamorous parties that feel one whispered secret away from disaster. It’s moody and cinematic.
Beneath the shimmer, though, are the deeper themes that stayed with me: that love never truly leaves us, that the magic we lose as adults is still waiting to be found, that wonder isn’t gone — we’ve just stopped looking for it. ✨
Garber surprised me again and again with her twists — the betrayals, the secrets, the sister dynamic (I have SO MANY questions about January!).
This was my first Stephanie Garber book, but it definitely won’t be my last. If you’re a mood reader who loves fast-paced, time-bending stories with a dash of romance (and little to no spice), this one’s for you.
When I closed the book, I felt nostalgic — like I’d just stepped out of a black-and-white world where magic still existed, where glamour lived in the shadows, and where hope still shimmered, even when the lights dimmed.
"Alchemy of Secrets" reminded me that maybe, just maybe, there’s still a little stardust left in this world — if you know where to look. 🌙✨
