To Cage a Wild Bird by Brooke Fast Review

If "The Hunt" and "Westworld" had a baby it would be Brooke Fast's "To Cage a Wild Bird". Set in a dystopian version of the U.S. after a second civil war, our FMC, Raven gets herself sent to Endlock prison in order to save her brother, Jed. But Endlock isn't just a prison, it's also a hunting ground where the elite pay good money for the privilege of hunting the inmates. 

The book is fast-paced and pulls you in right away. Raven is an engaging and complex character that had me rooting for her from the get go. I love her passion and her loyalty to her family and friends. Speaking of family and friends, we met a unique and diverse set of characters in Endlock, many of whom become Raven and Jed's friends and eventually their own chosen family. 

And then there is Vale, our MMC. He is strong, loyal and a man of integrity. And for some reason he is helping Raven and her friends. Yes there are some spicy scenes in this book so, if you are like me and that's not your thing, just be aware you will need to skip over some sections. Otherwise... enjoy! 

"To Cage a Wild Bird" will make you laugh and cry and hold your breath. I could picture the action happening as if it were a movie playing out before me. In the next book I would like to see more character development and more of the backstories of some of our side characters. 

Be warned, while the book ends in a good place - no super cliffhanger that had me throwing the book across the room - it still ended with questions left unanswered. I rated this book 4 stars and will be eagerly awaiting the sequel!
