Metal Slinger by Rachel Schneider Review

You know that feeling when you’re strapped into a rollercoaster — hands in the air, adrenaline rushing — and then suddenly the track just… ends? That’s "Metal Slinger".

I closed the last page and just sat there in stunned silence. The ending twist? Brutal. Heartbreaking. And yes, I’ll admit it: I was low-key mad at the FMC. (Girl, why? WHY?) It left me both breathless and a little wrecked — the kind of book hangover where you’re staring at the wall, rethinking your life choices.

Plot-wise, Rachel Schneider serves up a heady mix of romantasy, sci-fi, fantasy, and adventure. You’ve got enemies-to-lovers tension (you know we live for it), political intrigue that keeps you guessing, and just enough mystery to have you muttering “one more chapter” until it’s suddenly 2 AM.

But let’s talk Jovie. Taken from her family as a child — and yet, not exactly chomping at the bit to be reunited with them? I kept side-eyeing her choices, wanting to reach through the page and shake her. It didn’t ruin the ride, but it definitely had me questioning her character arc. Snark aside, though, I couldn’t look away.

Who should pick this up? If you love romantasy with sci-fi flair, crave a little political backstabbing, or thrive on enemies-to-lovers angst, this one’s for you. But fair warning: don’t come into it expecting to leave with your heart intact. Be in the mood for a journey that lifts you up… only to emotionally destroy you at the end. (Cozy blanket recommended, tissues mandatory.) I closed this book and immediately opened therapy Google - just saying.

Bottom line? "Metal Slinger" is a good ride that drops you straight off a cliff and waves on the way down — and somehow, you’ll thank Rachel Schneider for the push and beg for the sequel.
